چکیده

Dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is a kind of vector transmitted disease, by Aedes aegypti. It one major public health problem around the world, including Indonesia, because it may lead to epidemics and death in short time. The use plant extracts as bio-larvicidal thought be promising solution, them betel leaves (Piper betle L). addition polyethylene glycol (PEG) diluent increase dispersity extract water which larval medium growth. Objectives: To determine potential 95% ethanolic (EEBL) PEG 400 on aegypti mortality. Material Method: Betel were extracted maceration using ethanol. There are two kinds EEBL concentration used, 0.2% dan 0.4%. was also added diluent. samples this study larvae at instar III-IV, with total larvae. Evaluation performed 6, 12, 18, 24 hours. data obtained then analyzed Kruskall Wallis test post-hoc Mann Whitney test. Result: In all treatment groups, mortality reached 100% From test, p-value <0.05. comparation between groups positive control group >0.05, negative Conclusion: known that 0.4% effective temephos larvicides

Role of Petiole in Protein Metabolism of Senescing Betel (Piper betle L.) Leaves.

Effects of depetiolation on protein metabolism during senescence of detached betel (Piper betle L.) leaves have been studied. In normal petiolated leaves, the level of chlorophyll and proteins and extent of protein synthesis declined, while the protease activity registered manifold increase with the advancement of senescence. All of these changes were delayed by depetiolation/de-midribbing trea...

Radioprotective property of the ethanolic extract of Piper betel Leaf.

The radioprotective activity of Piper betel ethanolic extract (PE) has been studied using rat liver mitochondria and pBR 322 plasmid DNA as two model in vitro systems. The extract effectively prevented gamma-ray induced lipid peroxidation as assessed by measuring thiobarbituric acid reactive substrates, lipid hydroperoxide and conjugated diene. Likewise, it prevented radiation-induced DNA stran...

Chemical study and larvicidal activity against Aedes aegypti of essential oil of Piper aduncum L. (Piperaceae).

Piper aduncum L. is used in folk medicine to treat respiratory and inflammatory diseases. The aim of this study was to analyze the essential oil from leaves of P. aduncum collected in the Brazilian Cerrado, North of Minas Gerais, as well as to evaluate the larvicidal activity of this oil and of its major constituent. The essential oil was analyzed by gas chromatography coupled to flame ionizati...

Two new sphingolipids from the leaves of Piper betle L.

Two new sphingolipids, pipercerebrosides A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the leaves of Piper betle L. Their structures, including absolute configurations, were determined by spectroscopic analysis and chemical degradation. These two compounds did not show significant cytotoxic activity against the cancer cell lines K562 and HL-60 in a MTT assay.
